Tragically, a young and extremely loved member of our community, Matthew Cabello, passed away unexpectedly after an accident that occurred in Kerrville on Sunday March 11, 2018. We would like take a moment to remember the beautiful life he lived.

Matthew Cabello was a great young man who loved his family and served his community. He was born on September 20, 2000 in Laredo, Texas. As a junior at Tivy High School, he also worked at the McDonald’s in Kerrville for the last two years. Matthew worked hard to help his mom contribute to their bills at home. Matthew also had a younger sister, Alyssa, that he helped care for, as well. He, Alyssa, and their mother, Elizabeth, were an inseparable family filled with love. Matthew was also very close to his grandmother.

Those who knew Matthew will be the first to tell you he was a very spiritual, kind hearted, respectful and hardworking young man. He was a great friend and classmate. He will be remembered as someone who lifted up others and made a positive impact on the lives he touched along his journey through life.

Matthew had several hobbies, which included hunting, fishing and working on cars. His most recent pride and joy was the small motor he built into his bike. He really enjoyed his auto-tech class, leading him to want to attend college to become an F1 Technician, a NASCAR car mechanic.

Matthew also liked to visit the local nursing homes to keep the elderly company.

Matthew’s family is very appreciative of many who have come by to pay their respects to the family and those who have come to share their memories of Matthew.

Tivy High School’s principal and counselor, Ms. Balser and Ms. VanHoozer stopped by to see the family immediately to share their memories and give their condolences. Ms. VanHoozer mentioned that she remembers Matthew had an “old soul” type of personality and that he enjoyed sitting at the lunch table with the teachers.

One of his managers from McDonald’s, Elena Ramirez, has come by to see the family, as well, to share her memories and had great things to say about Matthew.

Losing Matthew was a great loss to so many in the community and would be describes as “irreplaceable” by those who knew him. Matthew will be dearly and greatly missed by all of us. He left a huge hole in many lives that will never ever be filled.

Matthew’s family would appreciate the help of the community to fill the financial void he left behind by his unexpected passing. Kind hearted citizens are encourage to contribute to the family by visiting their GoFundMe page.

The family would also like to raise awareness in the community that drivers should be more mindful of bike riders while they are behind the wheel.
