Attorney General to look into complaint about voter bribery

April 29, 2018

Recently, a criminal complaint has been received by the Attorney General’s office in connection with the Kerrville Mayor election.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, a rent rebate of $20 was offered to tenants of four different apartment complexes to benefit those who voted in the May 5 election.

The San Antonio Express-News reported that the owners of the apartment complexes, MacDonald Companies, insisted the rebates were legal but has since canceled the offer.

The complaint alleges that the rebate offer violated state penal code provisions on bribery.

It has been said that the company was trying to motivate people to vote but not for anyone in particular.

The $20 offer appeared in the newsletter beside the notice about the upcoming appearance of candidates Blackburn, Eychner, and Sigerman.

Due to a backlog, the Attorney General’s office won’t look at the complaint until after May 5.
