City announces that summer activities registration will open May 1

The City of Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department announces that registration for summer activities will open on May 1, 2018.

Activities include group swim lessons, private and semi-private swim lessons, Stroke Development Clinic, Junior Lifeguard Camp, Kid’s Triathlon, and the Skateboard Competition.

The public can register for the activities at the Parks and Recreation Department located at Kerrville-Schreiner Park, 2385 Bandera Highway in Kerrville, or by phone at (830) 257-7300, or online.

Details of each activity listed are provided by Kerrville Parks and Recreation.

Swim Lessons- There will be three sessions of Group Swim Lessons at the Olympic Pool for ages 6 months and up. Each session runs Tuesday through Friday for two weeks, and the fee is $35.00 per session. Sign up May 1, as classes fill up fast! Session dates are as follows:

• Session 1: June 5, 2018 – June 15, 2018; Registration deadline is May 31;
• Session 2: June 19, 2018 – June 29, 2018; Registration deadline is June 14;
• Session 3: July 10, 2018 – July 20, 2018; Registration deadline is July 5.

Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons- For $100 you can get four days of one-on-one instruction with a swim instructor in a Private Swim Lesson. For parents that have children at a similar skill level, but still want one-on-one instruction, we offer Semi-Private Lessons (up to two children) at $150 for four days. Junior Lifeguard Camp- Our Junior Lifeguard Camp is a new program and great opportunity for children to obtain skills and knowledge to keep themselves and others safe in aquatic environments. Participants will be introduced to lifesaving techniques, swimming, and team building skills to help in a water safety emergency. Participants will NOT become certified lifeguards but can gain experience in this fun camp. The camp will run from July 23-27, 2018 starting at 8 a.m. and ending at noon. The fee to attend is $55. Participants must be between the ages of 10- 14, and be able to swim on their own.

Stroke Development and Improvement Clinic- The Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a Stroke Development and Improvement Clinic for adult swimmers through US Masters Swimming. Anyone who can swim 200 yards comfortably, and wants to improve the freestyle technique can attend this clinic. Learn drills that when used regularly, will continuously refine your stroke. Your stroke techniques will be evaluated by on deck coach instruction. The fee for the one-day clinic held on June 3 is $25. Participants must be members of US Masters Swimming. Sign up for a trial membership at www.usms.org, or sign up the day of the clinic. There is no charge for the trial membership.

Senior Water Aerobics- Senior citizens may participate in this low impact water aerobics exercise class offered through the Dietert Center. Registration is through the Dietert Center at 451 Guadalupe St., (830) 792-4044.

Pool Rentals- Don’t forget that we are currently accepting reservations for rentals at the Olympic Pool for pool rentals, picnic area rentals, and the pool pavilion rentals. The pool is the perfect place to have your summer party! Reservation fees and packages are below, all reservations include lifeguards:

• Olympic Pool Rental ($200 for two hours);
o Saturdays 10 a.m. – 12 noon and 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
o Sundays 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
o 200 person maximum.
• Pool Pavilion Rental ($20 for two hours);
o Two hour time blocks between 12 noon and 6 p.m.
o Rental does not include admission fees.
• Pool Picnic Area Rental ($20 for the day);
o Rental does not include admission fees.

Skateboard Competition- The Skateboard Competition, sponsored by T-N-J Engraving, will take place on June 16 at Singing Wind Park. Entrants will have three minutes to perform their best skating skills. Admission is free, however, participants will still need to register for the event. Helmets are required. On-Site registration will also be available for this event.

Kid’s Triathlon- The Kid’s Triathlon will take place on Aug. 18 at Singing Wind Park, 2112 Singing Wind Dr. Boys and girls of ages 18 and under are welcome to participate in this swim, bike, and run event sponsored by Hill Country Bicycle Works. The fee for a single child is $15. For parents with multiple children, the Parks and Recreation Department offers the following discount: $10 for the second child, and $5 for every child after that. The discount is not available online but will be honored at the Parks and Recreation Department office. On-Site registration will also be available for this event, but pre-registration is encouraged.
