Sam Marquis was diagnosed with a rare, 1 in 55,000, genetic condition called Chromosome 18q. This genetic condition is caused when part of a chromosome is deleted.
Due to this genetic condition, Sam’s ear canals did not form, therefore the young boy requires special hearing aids to hear. Also caused by the condition, Sam has a complex right clubfoot and required 16 casts, 2 surgeries, and several trips to specialists in Missouri. Sam sees his specialist every 4 months. On top of that, Sam sees many therapists regularly to combat developmental delays caused by his genetic disorder.
Sam’s special hearing aids cost his family around $12,000 and he also needs his own plane ticket to travel to and from his specialist in Missouri.
Since the cost to medically care for Sam is high, Operation Sam was formed to help raise funds to cover his current and future medical expenses.
A Facebook auction to benefit Sam will happen on Saturday, May 26, from 9 AM to 6 PM. The community will have the opportunity to assist Sam’s family with raising funds needed to medically care for the 2-year-old. Visit the Operation Sam Auction Facebook event to participate.
Some of the auction items include:
- Becker Vineyard’s Winery tour and tasting for 10 people
- Photo session and digital images with Kayla Jane Photography
- $150 LuLaRoe gift certificate from Cassie Garrod
- Brighton and Premier Jewelry
- $100 gift certificate from Wags n Wiggles for Pet Sitting
- Bath and Body product gift sets
All proceeds from the auction will go to benefit Sam.
If anyone in the community does not wish to participate in the Operation Sam auction event but would still like to donate to Sam, you are encouraged to visit his donation page. On the page, there is also a video showing Sam hearing for the first time!
Sam’s parents would like to thank everyone who has helped them during their journey and are grateful for every donation they receive.
