It was determined that a 2011 Kenworth truck tractor pulling a semi-trailer was traveling north on Washington and was turning left, westbound, on to East Main Street.

The truck tractor was driven by Enrique Martinez of San Antonio, Texas (age 56). A witness reported that Martinez was facing a green traffic light. A 2018 Kia Optima was traveling eastbound in the 300 block of East Main Street. The Kia was driven by Brian Young of Leesville, South Carolina (Age 51). The vehicle also had a front seat passenger, Starla Cook also of Leesville, South Carolina (Age 50).

According to Cook, Young was possibly having a medical emergency and passed out while driving and Cook was unable to take control of the vehicle from the passenger’s seat. The Kia then entered the intersection while facing a red traffic light and struck the left side of the semi-trailer. The Kia then traveled under the semi-trailer and came to rest in the 400 block of East Main Street.

Young was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. Cook was extracted from the vehicle by the Fredericksburg Fire Department and was later airlifted to San Antonio with non-life threatening injuries. Martinez received no physical injury as a result of the crash. The investigation continues.”
