Corporal Givens had been Saving, Serving, and Protecting the People as a Law Enforcement Officer for 32 years. he was sworn with the Dallas Police Department in Texas and assigned to their Traffic Unit as a Motor Officer since 2012.

May we never forget how his life was taken so selfishly while honoring a fellow Police Officer …

On Saturday, July 21, 2018, 0530hours, Dallas Police Department Motorcycle Officers were assigned to escort the body of fellow Police Officer Senior Corporal Tyrone Andrews, who succumbed to cancer, from the Laurel Land Funeral Home to a location in East Texas. During the escort, Senior Corporal Earl “Jamie” Givens positioned himself to block oncoming traffic to the eastbound entrance ramp to Interstate 20 at Bonnie View Road.

Senior Corporal Givens was stationary on his motorcycle with his emergency lights on when the driver of a Kia Sportage struck the officer at a high rate of speed. Fellow officers immediately turned around and began rendering aid to Senior Corporal Givens until Dallas Fire and Rescue arrived. The suspect collided into a concrete wall and remained on scene.

Senior Corporal Givens was transported to Baylor Hospital.

The suspect was subsequently arrested on preliminary charges of suspicion of DWI.

S/Cpl. Givens is the 78th Law Enforcement Line Of Duty death this year, 2018.
