Several local law enforcement agencies have spoken out, paying tribute to the Dallas police officer, Senior Corporal Earl ‘Jamie’ Givens, who was killed in the line of duty yesterday by a drunk driver, while on a funeral escort for a fellow DPD officer.
Junction Police Department made a statement on Facebook page that read, “Prayers for the Dallas Police Officer’s family and the Dallas Police Department for their loss.”
Uvalde Police Department had this to say yesterday, “A 32 year veteran of the Dallas Police Dept. tragically lost his life today after being struck by a suspected drunk driver. Senior Corporal Earl Givens was a Motorcycle Police Officer escorting a funeral on duty when the accident occurred. Keep the family, community, and the Dallas Police Dept in your prayers.”
Uvalde County Sheriffs Office wrote, “Prayers for the Dallas Police Department for the tragic lost of a Motorcycle Police Officer struck by a suspected drunk driver today. Rest In Peace Officer Givens #5484. We got the watch from here.#ThinBlueLine”

Senior Corporal Jamie Givens, 55, was struck and killed by a speeding drunk driver while on funeral escort of a fellow DPD Officer.
Corporal Givens had been Saving, Serving, and Protecting the People as a Law Enforcement Officer for 32 years. he was sworn with the Dallas Police Department in Texas and assigned to their Traffic Unit as a Motor Officer since 2012.

On Saturday, July 21, 2018, 0530hours, Dallas Police Department Motorcycle Officers were assigned to escort the body of fellow Police Officer Senior Corporal Tyrone Andrews, who succumbed to cancer, from the Laurel Land Funeral Home to a location in East Texas. During the escort, Senior Corporal Earl “Jamie” Givens positioned himself to block oncoming traffic to the eastbound entrance ramp to Interstate 20 at Bonnie View Road.
Senior Corporal Givens was stationary on his motorcycle with his emergency lights on when the driver of a Kia Sportage struck the officer at a high rate of speed. Fellow officers immediately turned around and began rendering aid to Senior Corporal Givens until Dallas Fire and Rescue arrived. The suspect collided into a concrete wall and remained on scene.
Senior Corporal Givens was transported to Baylor Hospital.
The suspect was subsequently arrested on preliminary charges of suspicion of DWI.
S/Cpl. Givens is the 78th Law Enforcement Line Of Duty death this year, 2018.
