Blood drive coming to the Kroc Center, community invited to donate

A blood drive will be held at the Kerrville Kroc Center, located at 201 Holdsworth Drive on July 30 from 8:30 AM- 2 PM. The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center- Donor Pavilion will be there to give the community the opportunity to donate blood. Walk-ins are welcome but donors can also schedule an appointment ahead of time by clicking here.

This donation event comes ahead of the Hill Country Community Blood Drive on August 9, where blood donation stations will be in place in Boerne, Bandera, Fredericksburg, and Kerrville.

The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center says that before giving blood, donors should eat an iron-rich meal and hydrate their body with 8-10 glasses of fluid 1-2 days before; this helps make the veins more visible and helps donors feel more energized after their donation. The Center advises donors to avoid taking aspirin and blood-thinners for two days before if you are planning to donate platelets.

On the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center website, they say that “Anyone who is 16 years old weighing 120 pounds (with parental consent form), or at least 17 years old weighing 110 pounds and in good general health can donate blood. Donors must present photo ID, last four digits of their Social Security number and their birth date.”

To check if you are eligible to donate, or to ask specific questions about donating, you are asked to call the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center eligibility specialist at 800-292-5534 anytime between 8:30 AM and 5 PM from Monday to Friday.
