WordPress Or Wix? Answers From A San Francisco Web Design

WordPress or Wix: Which one should you go for? Should you choose the tried and tested WordPress that has been powering websites since 2003? Or should you go for Wix that has been around since 2006 but has just gained popularity in recent years?  You are probably confused, right?

In this article, San Francisco Web Design Company offers you a more insight into these two giant website builders. This will make it easier for you to decide which one you should choose. Keep on reading to understand them.

WordPress vs. Wix: What’s the difference?

WordPress is a self-hosted open-source CMS. That means with WordPress, you build your website or blog from scratch. Wix, on the other hand, is an all-in-one website builder that is perfect for beginners. It comes with everything built-in and ready, so you just start building your website.

WordPress is more powerful and popular than Wix. It claims to power more than 35% of websites on the web.  However, WordPress requires more technical know-how to use, unlike Wix, which can be used by anyone regardless of their level of technical know-how.

1. Ease of use

Many bloggers or website owners choose WordPress or Wix because they don’t want to hire a website designer. Fortunately, these two allow you to create a website without coding skills. When it comes to ease of Use, Wix is the easiest to use website builder. That’s because you don’t have to install any software. You also edit everything in your browser. Their editor is drag and drop, and very instinctive, especially for beginners. WordPress, on the other hand, doesn’t come with a built-in drag and drop page builder.  WordPress has extensions and plugins, but they are not that easy to install or implement.

2. Design and flexibility

Having a site is one thing, but having it designed to your preference is another thing altogether. When it comes to design, you need to choose a design that is attractive and user-friendly.

Wix comes with over 500 pre-made templates to choose from. You can select your favorite template and customize it further. There are designs available for all sorts of websites. WordPress, on the other hand, has thousands of free and paid themes. Free themes come with limited support, while paid themes offer more features and come with premium support options.

3. Apps and Plugins

Plugins and Apps are third-party extensions that you can use with your website builder to add more features. WordPress calls them plugins, while Wix calls them apps.

Wix has over 200 apps that you can add to your site. These apps offer various features such as adding contact forms, comments, gallery, social media platforms, etc. Most of these apps are free or have a lite version.  WordPress has over 55,000 free plugins available in the WordPress.org plugin directory. You can use these plugins to create a contact form, build a membership website, sell online courses, and so much more. There are numerous plugins both free and paid, which you can use to build your ideal website.

4. E-commerce

When building an e-commerce store, you aim to make massive sales. That’s why you need to choose a website builder that can help you achieve that. It should have great features as well as make it easy for people to buy from you. When it comes to Wix, if you are using the free version, there is no e-commerce for you. You must sign up for the Wix eCommerce plans to do that. But with WordPress, it is easy to create your online store using WooCommerce.  There are several eCommerce plugins available for WordPress that you can use to sell goods and services.

Verdict

From the above-named features, we can conclude that WordPress is the ultimate winner. Although it is not as easy to use as Wix, WordPress offers other great features more than Wix. This could be the reason why WordPress is very popular and powers more than 35% of websites.
